Maintenance Custodian

James Minot

What brought you to Ames First UMC?
I was born in Ames and grew up about two blocks from Ames First UMC.

Tell us about your education and/or prior experiences.
I attended Iowa State and graduated with a degree in geology. I spent about twelve years working as an environmental hydrogeologist; which is a fancy way of saying I was cleaning up old gas stations across Iowa.  I briefly did environmental work with the DNR.  Then I delivered lunch to Polk County senior centers for ten years.

What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
Julie and I keep ourselves busy with our household menagerie.  We have five chaotic cats, three adorable guinea pigs, two Call Ducks, a small flock of chickens, and a crazy horde of Indian Runner ducks.  Avery, our cockatoo, rules over the entire lovable mob with an iron-talon.
